Can Massage Help With Digestion?

It makes sense, stress is ever more present recently. Bodies are acting differently than they have before because of the extra stress everyone is seeing.

Since most of our digestion takes place when we are relaxed (usually while we are asleep), and the general purpose of massage is relaxation, the quick answer is yes, massage can help with digestion.

Manual pressure applied to the abdomen can stimulate movement of the digestive tract, helping relieve cramping, gas bloating, and constipation.

Those who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can also benefit from massage, since IBS worsens under stress and anxiety and massage lessens both. If you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, wait until a period of remission before seeking massage therapy.

So many health issues are worsened by stress and anxiety, so massage can be a great remedy. We encourage you to discuss with us any health concerns you may have – you may be surprised how massage could help! And we’ll also tell you if massage is just an additional support to your body during whatever you may be experiencing.
